GoToMeeting, a program widely used in the Business field, has been gaining traction amongst American Universities as a means to provide interactive education in an online setting. Harvard, Stanford, NC State, and Duke have implemented GoToMeeting as a means of administering academic support, while other universities are using it to administer online classes. UMO uses GoToMeeting to provide virtual tutoring to Non-Traditional students!
The UMO ARC has installed GRE PowerPrep II software on all of its lab computers! Students are now free to explore the GRE prior to taking the exam.
Dr. Regina Stone-Hernandez, Director of the ARC, has been looking to implement GRE assistance for some time: "It is important to realize that many of our students will be looking to further their education beyond the walls of UMO. Many avenues require the GRE exam as part of the application process. While it is not part of the UMO curriculum, we now have the capability to aid students in their GRE preparations."
Students can also make an appointment with ARC Coordinator David Shields to take a "Mock Exam."
Dr. Stone-Hernandez emphasizes the importance of being fully prepared: "The GRE is a daunting exam. Students will go through many procedures and protocols prior to taking the exam that could disrupt their rhythm before the test has even started. Our Mock Exams will be as close to the real thing as we can get. We hope that this will help the students feel more comfortable heading in to the exam."
The program installed on the ARC computers features two timed and two un-timed GRE exams. Students are able to receive feedback on the all portions of the exam, with the exception of the essay questions.
